Our Adventures in May

I realize we are already halfway through June and I’m just now getting this post up!

If I thought April was busy, May had us running at full speed! Here’s a quick rundown of our family events and then I’ll go into more detail about what we did in school.

Family Adventures

Happy Mother’s Day with Hang Tough

The first weekend of May we had Parent’s Day Out with Hang Tough which was amazing. Hang Tough always does such an amazing event for the kids. May’s theme was Mother’s Day and each of the kids made something special for me. It’s, even more, special because it’s the type of crafts and such that they would have done if they weren’t homeschooled so those memory-making things are even that much more special. Much to the kid’s dismay, we had to pick them up a little early for Rosalynn to have her dance recital with Dance Fusion Tallahassee. She has grown so much in her dancing skills this year and it was very apparent at the recital. She was so happy that one of her favorite dance teachers came up to help at the recital.

Benjamin’s Birthday

One Amazing Hot Wheels Cake from Alchemy Baking Co.

We also celebrated Benjamin’s 5th Birthday! He asked for a Hot Wheels cake and Niki over at Alchemy Baking blew it out of the park. Benjamin got to spend the day at MeMaw’s house and then we all met up for pizza. In his words “it was the best day ever!” but he says that about all of his birthdays.

Scouting Adventures

Ethan Canoeing for the first time

Nathan and Ethan had a fun weekend Camporee with the Scout Council and Ethan got to go canoeing for the first time. Ethan told me that learning to canoe was his favorite part of Camporee. Nathan and I also got to dress up (or at least it was dressed up for me) one night to go to a fundraiser called then Golden Eagle Dinner. This is a fundraiser that the council puts on every year. It was such a fun night. The last weekend of the month we got to go to Tampa as a family and celebrate the wedding of one of our nieces. Spending time as a family and getting to see family members is always a great time.

Like I said, full speed!

School Time Adventures

Now on to school. Rosalynn finished her clay class and loved it. She can’t wait to start again in the fall.

Co-Op

An Apple from the A Manual of Clay Modeling

Our co-op decided not to have formal classes this summer but one other family and my family is getting together to have some continued lessons. We found a study called Living Legends Latin America. We are also learning a folk dance and working through a few lessons in the book A Manual of Clay Modeling.

Read Alouds

We finished Chengli and the Silk Road Caravan as our literature read aloud. It was interesting to learn so much about a time period and country I have never spent time learning about. If you haven’t read Chengli and the Silk Road Caravan or learned anything about the early Middle Ages in China I totally recommend this book. I also started reading Mary Poppins during lunchtime.

How was your May? Tell me all about it in the comments!
