Our Summer Homeschool Plans

In this post, I shared different things to think about when planning school during the summer.

Today I’m sharing with you what our family is doing for our summer plans. This year we finished our regular lessons at the end of May and moved right into our summer plans. We are only doing lessons for June but will continue read-alouds through the rest of the summer.

History Block

Our history block is continuing through Build Year Library Level 2 and we are working through the time period of the Norse. This includes reading Odd and the Frost Giants which we are loving. There hasn’t been any interest in following a rabbit trail down further learning on the Vikings so as soon as we finish reading Odd and the Frost Giants we will be done with this block.

Science Block

Our science block is from CM Simple Studies. Crystal has taken some wonderful living books and created units to go along with them. We are using her simple study called Earth and Sky. The book it uses is The Earth and Sky: A Primer of Astronomy for Young Readers by Edward S. Holden. This unit has some narration, nature study, copy work, and poetry included. Crystal also includes a list of picture books that goes along with each lesson and we are really enjoying the pictures books, and I’m getting the littles involved as well.

Co-Op

Co-op is meeting as I mentioned in our May review. We are going through Living Legends Latin America and A Manual of Clay Modeling. I have enjoyed the beautiful books that are part of Living Legends. At home, we are going through some of the extension activities that go along with Living Legends.

Ethan’s Individual Plans

Ethan has read the graphic novel version of the first Wings of Fire book and now he is reading the novel version. He is also continuing through Teaching Textbooks to keep up on his math skills. Speaking of math I recently got the Right Start Number Sense book and we are going to be working through that. Ethan also has an account with education.com and he spends a little bit of time each day there.

Rosalynn’s Individual Plans

Rosalynn is continuing tutoring twice a week and she is enjoying it. She is still working through Explode the Code and Rooted in Language Pinwheels. She also has an account on education.com and she enjoys playing the games there.

That’s about all we are doing education-wise this summer. I would love to hear if you are schooling this summer and if you are what you are doing!
