Goodbye October!

Goodbye October!

In my October plans for the month, I shared our plans and goals for the month. Let’s wrap up the month and see how expectation and reality align!

Meal Planning

The first goal I had for October was to be more consistent on meal planning. I wouldn’t call it a total flop, but I wasn’t totally successful either. The one day that I have been working hard on being consistent at meal planning and prep is Tuesdays because that is by far our busiest day. Tuesday is when the two big kids have dance and so we are gone from the house from about 4:00-7:15 or so. I have an Instant Pot Slow Cooker and that is a game-changer. I’ve made taco soup and chili recently. We also get chicken noodle soup from Costco and that’s an easy meal for long days. If you have any great soup or slow cooker meals that you like send them my way!

To Read or Not To Read

My Wild and Free book group is still reading through Know and Tell, the Art of Narration by Karen Glass and I am finding it so helpful as we go through our school day. Actually narrating the book and not just jotting down notes has made reading it a totally different experience for me. I did not get as much read in The Dyslexia Empowerment Plan as I would have liked. We did go to the library several times and have checked out LOTS of books. If you would like to see what all we read this month check out our October books over at Bookshop.

Morning Walks

I had talked about going for morning walks, that is something we haven’t been as successful with. I’m adding it to our November goals and plans and hope to be better about it in November. I do enjoy going for walks with the kids in the morning but it just wasn’t a priority in October.

An Adventuring We Went

Our adventures for the month were plenty! Ethan and Rosalynn had a JBQ match and Rosalynn surprised us all by actually answering questions and came in 3rd place out of the whole competition. Reviewing their questions during family subjects has paid off.

Our Wild and Free group meet 3 times this past month, and by far my favorite trip was out to the St. Marks Wildlife Refuge to see the Monarch Butterflies on the migration. It was such a beautiful day. We saw lots of butterflies as well as some other fun wildlife.

How was your October? I would love to hear about it!
